The Babbage family
Little is yet known about the Babbidge family of Devon except they Mary Babbidge (my ancestor) married Samuel Burnell of neighbouring Somerset, most likely in the latter quarter of 1839 in the district of Taunton.
There are a large number of Babbidge surname bearers in Devon and the surname is often also spelt as 'Babbage'.

There are conflicting reports as to the birth place of Charles Babbage - mathematician, philosopher and proto-computer scientist born in 1791. It is possible that Charles may be part of the same family although some sources state he was born in London.
