The Babbage family
The earliest record that I have of a Babbage ancestor, is in 1783 at the baptism of my 4x Great Grandfather John Shore Babbage in Ashreigney, Devon, England.
John was a farmer of some 254 acres in 1851, and he continued to farm until his death in January 1868.
It appears that John was the son of a John and Mary Babbage, but this remains unconfirmed.

There are conflicting reports as to the birth place of Charles Babbage - mathematician, philosopher and proto-computer scientist born in 1791. It is possible that Charles may be part of the same family although some sources state he was born in London.
