George Dewey first appears in Witcham with his first wife Mary Long in 1794. There is no mention of his parents names and therefore this remains a mystery so far.
George and Mary's family of five children began to grow in Witcham but sadly, shortly after the death of their son Thomas (the second Thomas Dewey, the first died the year before), Mary died too, leaving George with a family of young children to look after.
Nine months later though, George re-trod the aisle, this time in Wentworth and married Mary Payton. The couple went on to have a further six children, moving to the nearby parish of Witcham by July 1815.
