George Dewey
1771-1846
George Dewey was the second of the four children to Thomas Dewey and his wife Elizabeth (née Covell) of Witchford.
George married Mary Long in 1790 and together they had five children. Shortly after the death of their son Thomas, Mary died too, leaving George with a family of young children to look after.
Nine months later though, George re-trod the aisle, this time in Wentworth and married Mary Payton. The couple went on to have a further six children, moving to the nearby parish of Witcham by July 1815.
