John Freeman
1812-1863
John Freeman was born in Prickwillow, Cambridgeshire and was the son of John Freeman and his wife Phoebe.
John married Mary Grey and together they had ten children. The couple and their first three children appear on the Witchford 1841 census, living in the fenland to the north of the village at Cold Moor Farm, along with two servants. At this time, John is noted as an Agricultural Labourer.
By the time of the 1851 Census, the family had moved to Wardy Hill, a hamlet of Coveney. By 1861, the family are living at Frogs Abbey, Coveney - a farm very close to Cold Moor Farm. By this time, John is noted as a farmer with 45 acres of land. It appears that John acquired at least 40 acres from his father whose own farm land had decreased by that amount.
John died in 1863. His wife Mary survived him.
