Mary Head
(1829-1892)

Mary Head (later Mary Barker) was one of at least two children of John Head and his wife Sarah Haggar of Barkway, in Hertfordshire, England.

When Mary was no more than 5 years old, her father was sentenced to 1 month's prison service and whipping for larceny. He spent 7 years imprisoned on a prison hulk ship moored at Woolwich. He would have been mostly absent from his children's childhood.

Mary married hay binder William Barker of Barkway in the October of 1847. The couple settled down to become parents nine times over a 20 year period.

Mary pre-deceased her husband William by 5 months in January 1892.
