Thomas Howlett
1835-1858
Thomas Howlett was one of the children of John Howlett and his wife Elizabeth (née Poll), formerly of Wymondham, Norfolk but later Mildenhall, Suffolk.
Thomas appears with his parents and siblings living at Burnt Fen, Lakenheath at the time of the 1841 Census. Ten years later in 1851, he appears again with his parents; younger sister Elizabeth; and his sister's family - the Woods. At this point, his place of birth is given as 'Mindrum, Norfolk'. When looking at the other equally badly spelt locations for his parents and siblings births, it appears that he was born in Wymondham, Norfolk - pronounced "Win-dum".
Thomas married Caroline Clark and he is noted as an illiterate labourer of Mildenhall at this time.
Sadly, the marriage was to last only a short time as Thomas died at the young age of 23 years, after a nine month illness of 'Phthisis' (a kind of wasting away, linked with Tuberculosis).
His widow, left with their 2 year old only child, remarried the following year to Robert Coe.
