The Family Tree

John Freeman Moden
1863-1941

John Freeman Moden was the 4th known child of Edward Moden, a labourer of Coveney and his wife Mary Ann Freeman.

When he was just 4 years old, his father died, leaving his pregnant young mother to look after the family of five (soon to be six).

Mary Ann Freeman re-married to David Seymour of Green's Farm in Ely and this brought the Moden family from Coveney, into Ely.

By 1885, John had married Mary Ann Meekins and the couple bore a daughter in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.

By 1891, the 26yr old John had been widowed and was noted on the census as living at 22 Great Earl Street, Bloomsbury in London, having married Sarah Jane Martin of Wardy Hill. The couple had bore a daughter called Ellen but she died in 1894 at just 3 years of age.

John and Sarah went on to have five more children. They appear on the 1901 census as living at 26 Affleck Street, Clerkenwell in London, before appearing at Witchford, Cambridgeshire in 1907, and eventually returning to St John's Road, Ely by the time of the 1911 census.
