John Newman
(1732-1785)

John Newman was the third of the six known children of Thomas Newman and his wife Ann Lee of St. Ives in Huntingdonshire (now in Cambridgeshire), England.

John married Hannah Squire at Fenstanton, Huntingdonshire, just a few miles east of his native St. Ives. It is here where he and Hannah set up home and became parents to seven known children - all sons. Sadly, their oldest son James, fourth son (who went un-named), and fifth son David, all failed to thrive, and died in their infancy.

At the time of his death, John is noted to have been a carpenter, although the Bishop's Transcript alters this to read pauper.

Hannah pre-deceased John by four years, with John dying aged 53 in 1785.
