The Norman family history

The Norman family lived in Stawley and Ashbrittle, which are neighbouring parishes in West Somerset, England, during the late 18th and early 19th century.

The most recent Norman ancestor in my tree is Ann Norman, the daughter of Christopher Norman and his wife Susannah Cross.

Ann married John Babbage in 1809, and the couple went on to have at least six children (all daughters) in nearby Holcombe Rogus, Devon.

Further research into this surname will follow, as it appears that Christopher may have been from Bampton or Hockworthy, and also there seems to be a connection with Exeter, Devon, as one of his daughters (Sarah) is seemingly baptised there at (the now demolished) St Mary Major in 1784.

The Norman family, through Christopher's wife Susannah, also gives me another Cross ancestor, but this time seemingly from South West England. I wonder if she is connected at all to my rather large Cross family in Cambridgeshire?

For now though, if the Norman family of Somerset and Devon are lurking in your tree too, then drop me a line.

Norman family connections

My research has so far found two ancestral links for my Norman family:
