Wenham Barber
(1810-1878)

Wenham Barber was the third of the eleven children of Wenham Barber and his wife Elizabeth Walker of Littleport, Cambridgeshire, England.

Wenham was baptised twice - once at the Wesleyan Church in Ely, and then again at the parish church in Littleport.

Like his father, he worked as an agricultural labourer in the fenland surrounding the Littleport.

He married Mary Padget in 1831, and together they settled down in the Sandhill part of Littleport, to have at least ten children - all sons- and ending with a set of twins - Jonathan and David.

By 1871, Wenham, now a widower, is noted as a pauper. He dies in 1878 and his estate was left to a 'William Ellingham of the Moors near Victoria Bridge, Littleport, Farmer, the sole Executor'. It is unclear as to whether this person is related, but it is also possible that he may have been a debtor. The estate was valued at 'under £20'.
