Uriah Cross
1826-1910

Uriah Cross was the seventh of the eleven known children of James Cross and his wife Elizabeth (née Lee) of Ely. He appears on the 1841 census with his parents and siblings, aged 15 years and living at "Turbotsey" in Ely.

Uriah and Emily were Methodists, attending The Primitive Methodist Chapel in Victoria Street, Ely. Several of their children were baptised there between 1861 and

During this period of baptisms, Uriah is noted as being a Farmer of Adelaide Bridge and later of Queen Adelaide, to the South East of Ely.

In 1881, Uriah and Emily are still living in Queen Adelaide, with relatives either side. Joining the couple are their two children Emily Cross and Herbert Cross. Their son, Jonathan, is living in Ely High Street, at the house of Arthur and Elizabeth Pledger, where he is working as a Draper's Assistant. During this census, Uriah is noted as a "Coal Merchant" but by the time of Kelly's Directory in 1883, Uriah is back to working as a Farmer of Queen Adelaide.

Uriah predeceased his wife Emily, by just under two years. She died during June 1912, aged 83 years and was buried alongside her husband. At the time of her death, she was living at Thorpe Cottage, Prickwillow Road, Ely.
