Lizzie was the second daughter of farm labourer John Freeman Dewey and his dressmaker wife, Elizabeth Boulter of Witchford, Cambridgeshire.

Lizzie gave birth to a son in 1900 and named him Percival Herbert Dewey. The identity of his father was never revealed. In fact, the identity was so secret, that Lizzie's younger siblings and Percival himself, were told that he was their little brother. It wasnt revealed until many years later, that he was actually their nephew.

Lizzie married Allen Punfret Taylor of Witchford and it is believed that she went on to have further children whilst Herbert was brought up by her parents as her "brother".
