Esther Moden

Esther Moden was the oldest of the twelve known children of Thomas Moden and his wife Rebecca Clements of Wentworth (formerly of Haddenham).
In 1851, Esther gave birth to her first child John Thomas Moden and it appears from the church records for Wentworth, that the identity of his mother was kept hidden. John's baptism in 1852 is shared with a Susan Moden, his Aunt and he is noted as "of Thomas and Rebecca Moden", which were actually his grandparents. This anonymity continues for John's marriage in 1871 to Charity Barrett where the register gave "unknown" as the parent and she did not appear as a witness, his cousin Elizabeth Boulter did instead.
Esther married Henry Dewey of Witchford, Cambridgeshire and the couple had at least ten children.
