Wilfred Newman
1913-1929
Wilfred Newman was the oldest son of Alfred Newman and Clara Gilbert of Waterside, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
He took a keen interest in Coursing - which was his favourite sport. He was a member of the Isle Club up until his death.
Wilfred died in December 1929, from a combination of three conditions which would have bore him extreme pain. He had already had a kidney removed at Addenbrookes Hospital three months before. His obituary noted that he died "following a long and painful illness borne with great cheerfulness and courage".
He had attended the the Boy's National School on Silver Street, Ely and had attended the Wesleyan Chapel and Sunday School.
Wilfred was a talented artist, and a number of his drawings have survived and can be viewed via the links below.
