William Crow Steadman
1831-?
William was one of the five known children of James Steadman and his wife Elizabeth (née Murfitt) of Ely, Cambridgeshire. Both William and his three of his siblings were all given the name "Crow" but there is no indication as yet, to suggest where this came from.
The family appear on the 1841 Ely Census as living at Waterside, Ely. By the time of William's marriage to Susan Taylor, he is noted as a "Waterman of Babylon" (the small island facing Waterside).
In 1852, William was partially named as the father by use of his surname, on the birth certificate of Sabina Steadman Taylor. Sabina was the illegitimate daughter of Susan Taylor of Cutter's Yard, Ely. In 1856, Susan and William married but they appear to have had no further children.
