Owen Yarrow was the youngest of the three children of James Yarrow and his wife Mary (née Gothard).

With his wife Laura, the couple had several children but most of these did not survive their infancy. The family lived in Holt Fen, Little Thetford, Cambridgeshire.

Owen worked as a Postman and had to carry mail to the front lines during the 1st World War. It was during the battle at Cumbrai, France, that he was sadly killed. None of his personal possessions were recovered. He served with the 5th Suffolk Regiment and the 1st Battalion Post Office Rifles.

During the 1st World War, whilst Owen was away, his wife Laura gave birth to the son of another man. He was born in 1916 and brought up as Alfred Yarrow but was killed in the Second World War in 1943.
