Oliver Bailey
(1804-1890)

Oliver Bailey was the second of the eleven children of William Bailey and his wife Elizabeth Bird of Wicken, Cambridgeshire, England.

Oliver worked as a labourer in the rich agricultural fenland surrounding Wicken, where he remained for his entire life.

When he was about 21 years old, he married 26 year old widow Ann Green, and the couple settled down to 22 years of marriage during which they became parents to six children. Sadly the first two failed to survive infancy.

Ann died in October 1848, leaving Oliver with his 4 surviving children aged between 16 and 8. He swiftly re-married to widow Susannah Morley (née Bangs). The couple, close to 50, did not appear to add any further children to the family.

By 1881, both Oliver and Susan are noted as 'Paupers'.

This marriage was to last about 38 years, with Susan pre-deceasing Oliver by about 18 months in 1888, aged 91.
