Richard Gothard
(1843-1929)

Richard Gothard was the second of the nine children of William Gothard and his wife Sarah Hawkins of Witcham, Cambridgeshire, England.

He married Louisa Smith and the couple had eight children. Sadly though, three of the children died within their first years of life and this was followed by the death of their mother, Louisa, in 1885.

After Louisa's death, the couple's oldest child, Benjamin, emigrated in 1890 to Los Angeles, United States Of America. Here he married and became a father.

The following year back home, Richard re-married to Mary Norman, a spinster of Sutton, Cambridgeshire. The 1911 census suggests that they did not have any children together.

Richard was outlived by his second wife Mary, by about 4 years.
