Thomas Hale
(1660-1729)

Thomas Hale was the youngest of the four known children of William Hale and his wife Elizabeth of the small village of Knotting, Bedfordshire, England.

Thomas married Bathesheba Jennell, also of Knotting, in 1686, but sadly their marriage was not to last as she died less than a year later.

It appears that Bathesheba died shortly after giving birth to daughter Elizabeth, although Knotting's church records note at the baptism, that Elizabeth is of 'Thomas and Elizabeth Hale'. However, Bathsheba died about two weeks after Elizabeth's baptism. It's therefore unclear whether Elizabeth is Bathsheba's daughter, or whether Thomas had had an affair with the woman who would become his second wife.

Thomas is noted as a 'Grasier' throughout the references to him in parish records.

He outlived his second wife Elizabeth (née Fairy), with whom he had at least ten children, by almost eight years.
