Ann Gilbert

Ann was the fifth child of farmer William Gilbert and his wife Elizabeth (née Brightle) of Littleport, Cambridgeshire.
In November 1865, when Ann was aged 27 and unmarried, she gave birth to a son - Edward.
Five years later, Ann married William Drake at Littleport. Both are noted as illiterate - and Ann is still illiterate in 1881, when she appears as a witness (alongside her husband) at the second marriage of her sister Jane Jackson (née Gilbert) to George Merrell at St. Matthew's Church, Littleport.
