Frances Flower
(1731-1785)

Frances Flower was the oldest of the five children (all daughters) of William Flower and his second wife Philippa Thorpe of Wicken, Cambridgeshire, England.

Frances married widower Richard Bayley of Wicken, Cambridgeshire and together they had nine children, adding to the two born to Richard's first wife, Martha Dennis. The couple lived in Wicken in to their late 50s-early 60s.

In 1785 Frances, her husband Richard, their son Richard, and Richard's wife Anne, all died within the space of about five weeks. In the parish register there is the note of 'coll' alongside their burial entries and four other villagers. I suspect this refers to their cause of death and most likely a contagious disease, such as 'cholera'.

Frances' daughter Peggy also died during this 'coll' period but this phrase is not noted against her burial entry. Frances was buried two days after her husband.
