Kerunhappuck Poll
(1810-1896)

Kerunhappuck Poll (later Kerunhappuck Smith) was the eighth of the eleven children of silk weaver Ishmael Poll and his wife Mary Fiddamont of Wymondham, Norfolk, England.

Kerunhappuck's name is one of the most unusual in my family tree, and has biblical origins, relating to the beautiful daughter of Job.

She married Robert Smith who, like her and her father, worked as a weaver in the booming cotton and silk weaving industry around Norwich, Norfolk during the 19th century.

The couple settled down to become parents at least nine times.

She is noted as a weaver in 1851, and a cotton weaver in 1871, before taking on the role of nurse towards the end of her lifetime. This would probably have been an un-registered nurse, serving her local community.

By the time of the 1871 census, Kerunhappuck is a widow and living alone. Ten years later, she is joined by her un-married daughter Elizabeth, and by the time of her final census in 1891, they are joined by granddaughter Caroline Smith.

Kerunhappuck died in early 1896, surviving her husband Robert by 31 years.
