John Howlett

John Howlett was born in approximately 1785 in the village of Ashfield, Norfolk, England. His parents are not yet known.

John is noted as a Weaver during the 1820s, but by 1841 he is working in agriculture and noted as a labourer.

He married pregnant widow Elizabeth Goodings (née Poll) in 1824, and she gave birth to their first child just three months later. The couple went on to have a further six children during their 36 year marriage.

During the mid-1800's the family are living at Burnt Fen - an area of fenland between the villages of Littleport, Lakenheath and Mildenhall, and close to the Suffolk and Cambridgeshire border. Whilst their census location appears to switch between Lakenheath and Mildenhall, they might have stayed in the same house - with the parish boundaries altering between censuses.

John died just two months before the 1861 census, and ten years before his wife.
