Isabella was visually impaired from birth, and is believed to have had a false glass eye. It is for this reason that she is usually photographed sat with her right eye away from the camera.

Isabella married Thomas Arthur Martin (known by his middle name Arthur) in 1900, and the couple settled down to have at least two children.

Thomas served in the First World War, and survived, returning home and living until 1939, when he pre-deceased Isabella by 6 years, aged 62.
